Per today’s news the Atlanta Hawks have assigned Walter “Edy” Tavares and Lamar Patterson to the Austin Spurs of NBA D-League. The move was made possible through the flexible assignment rule.

Standing tall at 7-foot-3 and a wingspan of 7-foot-9, the young talent from Cape Verde enamored a lot of people with his size and his ability to block shots. So much so as the Hawks selected him with the 43rd pick of 2014 NBA draft. Tavares returns to Austin averaging 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game in seven appearances for Atlanta. He’s appeared in seven D-League games between Austin and Canton this season, averaging 9.3 points and 9.7 rebounds.

Patterson also returns to Austin after being assigned to the D-League earlier this season. He appeared in three games with the Spurs averaging 15.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.3 assists. He’s seen more action than Tavares has in Atlanta, but not enough to crack the regular rotation. In 29 games, Patterson is averaging 2.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists for the Hawks, while averaging close to 13 minutes per game.

Both players are expected to join the Spurs on their two-game road trip that starts in Bakersfield tomorrow, and ends in Los Angeles on Saturday.
