Argentina getting it done defensively

Argentina remains undefeated at the FIBA Americas tournament thanks in large part to a roster of players who can get it done offensively. San Antonio Spurs’ Manu Ginobili, Luis Scola, and Carlos Delfino are just a few notable players on Argentina who can score with the best of them but defensively, the team is equally as good.

Argentina is holding opponents to an astonishing 60.2 points per game and Ginobili and the rest of the team know how to exploit a team’s weaknesses

“We scout the opponents’ strengths and we attack them. If they have any weaknesses, we force them to use them,” said Manu

Moreover, for as much as the team has firepower on the offensive end, the roster does have a couple of solid defenders. Andres Nocioni, and Fabricio Oberto anchor the defense and recently, the team held Canada to 53 points. A testament to head coach Julio Lamas according to Delfino.

“Defence is what coach Julio Lamas asked us to work on from the very first day.

“If we are tough in defence, we can score easily on the other side. I mean, if we steal balls and rebound, we can fly the court, especially when Chapu (Andrés Nocioni) plays as a power forward.”

For Spurs fans, seeing a team predicated on defense is something that is most appreciated. Coach Popovich stresses the defensive end and as they say, defense wins titles so things are looking up for Argentina and the London 2012 games.
