The San Antonio Spurs finally broke their losing streak and have even started one of the winning varieties! However, they are still at the bottom of the standings and that means some potential for a top pick. This week’s prospect to watch is Alabama freshman Brandon Miller.

The 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward is a freshman, but he comes to Tuscaloosa after a year of prep school. So he is already 20 and will be that age at draft time. Having said that, there are parts of his game that are quite polished and others that can use some work. Here are his stats through nine games of the season.

  • 17.9 PPG, 0.9 BPG, 1.7 APG, 8.4 RPG
  • 37.9 FG%, 42.9 3P%, 81.6 FT%
  • 20.8 PER, 120.4 ORtg, 91.5 DRtg

His shooting splits are a bit wild as he struggles to shoot and finish inside the arc. His three-point shooting is superb though and he hits from deep. Miller has to get better about his pull-ups in the midrange and he has to finish at the rim better. He can get there fairly easily, but he has been better about making his effort worthwhile. That should come with him putting on weight in the NBA and getting stronger.

The Bama freshman can drive the ball pretty well and isn’t just a straight-line driver. He has some spin moves and knows how to get to his spots. He can shoot over defenders and get by the bigger ones. He’s shifty, but not super athletic. He gets to the free throw line pretty often though and converts well there. He’s not a great run-jump athlete, but he knows how to use his body and is smart about where he goes on the floor.

Miller is a likely top-10 pick as he’s playing now. He’s leading the Crimson Tide in scoring and rebounding so he is clearly not afraid to play high-level competition and thrive in it. He has been great in games against UConn and Michigan State so far this year. Houston took him out of his game, but that is where they excel as well. The time to hop on the Miller hype train is now.

Where do you think Alabama freshman Brandon Miller will go in the draft?
