The 2022-2023 San Antonio Spurs Schedule is officially here.

Coinciding with the team’s 50th Anniversary, the schedule this year will be memorable for a number of reasons. In addition to the anticipated rookie debuts, there will be new jerseys and theme nights too. A handful of games will be played outside of the AT&T Center, a decision that has been met with mixed feelings.

Outside of the giveaways and promo nights as well, here are the games we’re circling on the calendar.

Spurs Opening Night 2022 – Wednesday, October 19th

**Fan Giveaway: Limited-edition Spurs x NBA paint collaborative t-shirt celebrating Manu Ginobili becoming a Hall of Famer.

The new season for the Spurs officially tips off on October 19, 2022, the second day of the 2022 NBA season. Hosting LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets, the franchise will kick off a year-long celebration of the team’s move to San Antonio in 1973, and all of the rich history that has followed.

Head coach Gregg Popovich will coach his 2,046th regular season game, putting him within just four games of tying Bill Hitch for the third-most in NBA history. Of course, last season Popovich passed Don Nelson for the most regular season coaching wins in NBA history, a record that now sits at 1,344. The team will also celebrate its latest Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, 2022 class member Manu Ginobili.

San Antonio Spurs vs Los Angeles Clippers – Friday, November 4th

One of the brightest moments in the Spurs’ history is the title in 2014, which doesn’t come without the NBA Finals MVP contribution of Kawhi Leonard. While the animosity toward Leonard has died down in recent years, games against “The Klaw” are nonetheless noteworthy, as it asks fans to ponder, “What if he never left?”

Now with the Los Angeles Clippers, Leonard didn’t play last season as he is recovering from an ACL tear in the 2021 NBA playoffs. Still, signs are pointing to a return to the court for the forward, which could see him playing against the Spurs in November. With Dejounte Murray seemingly taking over as “Public Enemy #1” in San Antonio, and expectations low for the Spurs, it will be interesting to see if the anger from the fan base is still there.

San Antonio Spurs vs Los Angeles Lakers – November 20th (Away), November 25th (Home), November 26 (Home), January 25 (Away)

The Los Angeles Lakers are a historic rival of the Spurs, and the contests each year come with a little extra fervor. If you’re hoping to catch the matchup, then November is your chance to make it happen. The teams only meet four times in the regular season each year, and three of those games will be in a six-day window this year, with the home games back-to-back on November 25th and 26th.

While the Lakers are quickly getting the Spurs off of the schedule early in the year, that is a good thing for San Antonio fans hoping to catch LeBron James in action. Now 37 years old, he should still be in good health so early in the season, though with the Spurs so young, there’s always the chance he takes the night off for rest.

San Antonio Spurs vs Atlanta Hawks – February 11th (Away) and March 19th (Home)

When the Spurs traded Murray in June, there were no hard feelings between the fan base and the player. Even from a team standpoint, it was a bitter but necessary move if the team was going to embrace the rebuild. In the weeks that followed, however, Murray quickly turned heel with the fans, including cryptic tweets that against the Spurs and jabs at people in the comment threads who were instigating him.

With the relationship now turned sour, Murray will likely look to put on a show when the Spurs travel to Atlanta in February while on the annual Rodeo Road Trip. There’s a lot of time between now and then, but that game may reignite feelings of animosity ahead of Murray’s return to San Antonio on Sunday, March 19th at 3 p.m. CST. Get the popcorn ready.
