This week in Roubaix, France, 350 cyclists representing more than 40 countries will participate in the 119th UCI Track Cycling World Championships. Taking place over four days from the qualifiers to the finals, the men’s and women’s competitions combine to total 22 total events, with 11 in each competition. An indoor event, the hosting venue for the 2021 UCI Track Cycling World Championships is Stab Velodrome. The competition starts on Wednesday, October 20th, and ends on Sunday, October 24th.

2021 Track Cycling World Championships Preview 

The roads of Roubaix, France are likely to experience increased bike traffic this week with riders outside preparing for their competitions inside the city’s Stab Velodrome. Chasing the top spots in their events, individual athletes can take home up to $9,316 (€8,000) for winning an event, with prize amounts decreasing for the second and third-place finishers.

For the men, Gavin Hoover and Ashton Lambie will represent America, competing in three and one events respectively. Hoover, 24, is an up-and-comer. A member of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics team, he placed seventh place at his last World Championships. Lambie, who this summer became the first person to break four minutes in the 4000m individual pursuit. Racing in the same event, he should do well.

In the women’s competition, five riders will represent the United States, in a total of eight events on the schedule. With Tokyo 2020 medalists Jennifer Valente and Lily Williams on a strong team that includes the impressive resumes of Maddie Godby, Kendall Ryan, and Mandy Marquardt, the women are in France to compete.
