2018 Draft Prospects That Have Been Linked to Spurs

The 2018 NBA Draft is officially just one month away and as the draft draws closer, so will reports of prospects the Spurs have/will interview, workout, or have interest in.

Barring a trade, the Spurs will have the 18th pick in the first round and the 49th pick in the second round of the June 21st draft.

Here’s a list of the prospects that have been linked to the Spurs according to different reports.

Jontay Porter – 6’11” Forward/Center out of Missouri

UPDATE: Porter has withdrawn from the 2018 NBA draft.

Angel Delgado – 6’9″ Center out of Seton Hall

Delgado also worked out for the Spurs. Here’s his Prospect Watch feature on Project Spurs.

Anfernee Simons – 6’3″ Point Guard/Shooting Guard out of IMG Academy

The Spurs were reportedly one of multiple teams that expressed interest in Simons. Here’s his Prospect Watch feature by Bornstein.

Luka Doncic – 6’8″ Shooting Guard/Small Forward from Slovenia

In order for the Spurs to get in Doncic’s draft range, a trade would be needed most likely including Kawhi Leonard. Regardless, international reporter David Pick reported three days ago the Spurs were among many NBA teams in attendance for one of Doncic’s Euroleague Finals games.

Omari Spellman – 6’9″ Power Forward/Center out of Villanova

Spellman is expected to work out with multiple NBA teams after the draft combine, including the Spurs on May 26th. Bornstein wrote a Prospect Watch feature on Spellman.

Carsen Edwards – 6′ Point Guard out of Purdue

Edwards has already reportedly worked out for the Spurs.

Miles Bridges – 6’6″ Small Forward/Power Forward out of Michigan State

Though Bridges isn’t expected to be on the draft board when the Spurs make their 18th pick, they did interview him.

Donte DiVincenzo – 6’5″ Shooting Guard out of Villanova

The Spurs had a meeting with DiVincenzo at the draft combine.

Brian Bowen – 6’7″ Small Forward out of South Carolina

The Spurs had a pre-draft work out with Bowen. According to the referenced article, there’s a chance Bowen may not stay in the draft though.

Chimezie Metu – 6’10 Power Forward/Center out of Southern California

Metu said he met with some of the Spurs’ staff, including General Manager R.C. Buford while at the draft combine.

J.P. Macura – 6’5″ Shooting Guard out of Xavier

According to Darren Wolfson on May 24, Macura had an upcoming workout with the Spurs coming up after he revealed that Macura had met with the Bucks, Clippers, Magic, and Pacers.

Kris Wilkes – 6’8″ Small Forward out of UCLA

On May 26, Scott Agness reported Wilkes would be working out for the Spurs. Agness also added that Wilkes would have to decide by May 30 whether or not to stay in the draft.

UPDATE: Wilkes has withdrawn from the 2018 NBA draft.

Josh Okogie – 6’4″ Shooting Guard/Small Forward out of Georgia Tech

Jonathan Givony reported it was the Spurs who diagnosed Okogie with a grade 1 right adductor strain which he suffered working out with the Memphis Grizzlies. Givony mentions Okogie is supposed to hold off workouts for 5-7 days.

Desi Rodriguez – 6’6″ Small Forward out of Seton Hall

Rodriguez has been working out for multiple NBA teams and he’s scheduled to work out for the Spurs Sunday (June 10). In their latest mock draft, Draft Express has Rodriguez going undrafted.

Here are Rodriguez’s strengths from the NBA draft guide:

  • Has very good size, strength and toughness.
    • Confident player who attacks the basket fearlessly and
    finishes through contact.
    • Has shown considerable improvement as a shooter.

June 11 is the last day for draftees to withdraw their name from draft consideration.
