When the San Antonio Spurs host the Phoenix Suns this week, Tiago Splitter will be meeting with Team Brazil head coach Ruben Magnano to discuss this summer’s FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain according to Portuguese website Diario Do Grande.
Specifically, to see if Tiago will be suiting up for his home country of Brazil.
Splitter is on record saying he will play for Team Brazil this summer only if he is healthy at the end of the NBA season.
If I am not injured, I will play with the national team next summer. I am looking forward to participate in the World Cup with my teammates and try to help Brazil do a great performance in Spain.
Last summer, Splitter did not participate in the FIBA Americas with Brazil citing rest from the long NBA season. Seeing how he sat out last summer, the chances are high he will play in Spain come August 2014 when the tournament starts.
This season, Tiago has suffered a right shoulder strain in early January that had him sidelined for a number of games. He also sat out three games with a right calf contusion.
