• Spurs set Gold Standard in NBA | Toronto Star

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star says  only one team stands above the rest in terms of  greatest sports teams and dynasties, the San Antonio Spurs. Smith says the Spurs should be the gold standard for the NBA and other professional sports leagues. He also points out that it’s no coincidence that the Spurs have been on their 11-game winning streak since small forward Kawhi Leonard returned to the lineup.

Former Lakers coach and a person Spurs fans love to hate, Phil Jackson, is back in the NBA. Jackson joined the Knicks as the team’s president and according to Mike Monroe, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is a fan of the move.

“I think it’s fantastic for the Kicks and fantastic for the league,” Popovich said after the Spurs morning shootaround to prepare for Wednesday night’s game against the Lakers at Staples Center. “To have somebody of Phil Jackson’s stature back in the mix is just a huge plus for everybody involved so I think it’s great.”

Spurs forward Matt Bonner recently answered some questions for Hardwood Paroxysm. Aside from revealing he prefers ranch over blue cheese and talking about his friendship with former Spur Stephen Jackson, Bonner says redheads make superior players.

Redheads kill it in the NBA because it has been scientifically proven that we are genetically predisposed to be superior basketball players.  It’s kind of like the Bourne Identity… It’s a side effect of a classified government experiment during the height of The Cold War.  Why I have chosen this moment to publicly disclose such a closely guarded secret I have no idea.  Our secret society, The League of Redheads, will not be happy about this…
