According to Turner Sports’ David Aldridge of TNT, the San Antonio Spurs are one of several teams ‘talking’ with Utah Jazz unrestricted free agent Marvin Williams.
Marvin Williams solidly on “next” line for threes after top four/five. Talking with Spurs, Heat, Wizards, Hornets, Clips, Magic, Suns.

Before free agency even began, I wrote a detailed piece about four free agent small forwards I thought the Spurs should target, and among those names, was Williams. Though Williams played the “stretch 4” position in his recent years with Utah, he also showed his capability to play the small forward position, as he did when he was with the Atlanta Hawks.
Last season with the Jazz, Williams averaged 9.1 points and 5.1 rebounds, while shooting 36% from 3-point range. I broke down his offensive and defensive attributes in my analytical breakdown here, if you’d like some insight into what Williams could bring to the Spurs.
Here is a brief rundown of who the Spurs have reportedly been targeting in free agency.
Guards: Sebastian Telfair (verbally committed to Oklahoma City), Shaun Livingston (verbally committed to Golden State), Bryce Cotton (will play with the Spurs at Summer League and can earn a roster spot by making the team in training camp), Troy Daniels
Wings: Kent Bazemore (will reportedly meet with the Spurs Tuesday), Caron Butler, Williams
Big men: Rashard Lewis, Pau Gasol, Josh McRoberts
With the Spurs coming to verbal agreements with Patty Mills, Boris Diaw still remains the main free agent the team is likely to re-sign. Aron Baynes still has a qualifying offer with San Antonio, while there hasn’t been any rumors about Matt Bonner just yet.
