Update: Spurs waive Thomas, looking to call-up D-League’s Jeffers

Update: The San Antonio Spurs waived forward Malcolm Thomas, presumably to free up space for Othyus Jeffers' 10-day contract. Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News confirmed Stein's report.

Jeffers is a 6-foot-5 guard with 31 games of NBA experience. He averaged 18.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 141 D-League games. Jeffers appeared in eight minutes with the Spurs three years ago, but he did not stick in the rotation.

The Spurs can sign Jeffers to two 10-day contracts, before having to guarantee his contract. Danny Green is reportedly ahead of his four-week timetable, and could be available by that time.

Project Spurs' Aaron Preine interviewed Jeffers three years ago, when he was with the Spurs.

With the San Antonio Spurs limping midway through the season (injuires to Danny Green, Tiago Splitter, Kawhi Leonard), according to ESPN's Marc Stein, the team will be looking at bringing in D-League's Othyus Jeffers on a 10-day call-up to shore up the roster.

Jeffers played with the Spurs in the 2010-2011 and saw limited action (averaged 2.2 points).

With the Iowa Energy, he is averaging 22.8 points, 11.4 rebounds in 22 games this season.
