Report: Gasol narrows choice down to Spurs, Bulls

Friday afternoon Los Angeles Lakers free agent Pau Gasol went to Twitter to announce he was close to making his free agent decision, and he would soon be making a choice.

Now according to Marca.com’s Jesus Sanchez, Gasol has narrowed his choices down to the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.

The power forward Catalan choose, unless last-minute proposal, between Chicago and San Antonio.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne also heard the Bulls and Spurs are finalists for Gasol, by her thinking, he’d choose San Antonio.

Marc Stein of ESPN.com also mentioned the Spurs as frontrunners for Gasol.

At the moment, the Bulls can offer more money to Gasol than the Spurs, if Chicago decides to amnesty Carlos Boozer. The Spurs meanwhile can offer the full mid-level exception. There’s also the possibility of a sign-and-trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, though that route is looking more unlikely with the free agent decisions the Lakers have already made in re-signing Nick Young and Jordan Hill.

Friday afternoon Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported Gasol turned down a deal to return to Los Angeles for two years at roughly $10 million per season. The expectation was that the Lakers were the team that could pay him the most out of the Spurs, Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder, and New York Knicks.

Tony Parker also recently said he spoke with Gasol about playing in San Antonio together.

Project Spurs will continue to monitor Gasol’s decision.
