Team France beat Team Greece in exhibition play 81-73, but were without the services of San Antonio Spurs’ Boris Diaw.
Diaw, who re-signed with the Spurs this offseason, was held out of action due to a delay in insurance required by the Spurs, considering he will be playing with France this summer at the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain this month.
Not having Diaw in these tuneup games before the World Cup will likely set back his meshing with the team. And considering France is already without Spurs guard Tony Parker, they will need Diaw if they want a deep run in the tournament to come.
Diaw and the Spurs will more than likely resolve this insurance issue, but I am quite sure the Spurs’ brass and fans wouldn’t mind seeing this issue persist, keeping him out of action and ready for the upcoming Spurs season.
Diaw played a key role in San Antonio’s march to the 2014 NBA title and the team will need him if they want to defend their title next season.
France will next play Serbia in exhibition play.
