During the opening hour of free agency, a lot of media attention was focused on the Portland Trail Blazers’ high-level of interest in free agent forward Spencer Hawes. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Portland’s General Manager met with Hawes and his agent in Los Angeles in the opening hours of free agency.
According to Joe Freeman of the Oregonian, the Blazers are seeking a “stretch 4” big man like Hawes, and the Blazers will also reportedly pursue San Antonio Spurs unrestricted free agent forward Boris Diaw.

As I recently wrote in detail, Diaw brought versatility to the Spurs on both sides of the basketball floor last season. Last year during free agency, the Blazers also pursued Tiago Splitter, and Splitter did confirm the talks, but in the end he decided to stay in San Antonio.
The expectation is Diaw will likely stay in San Antonio if both sides can come to a reasonable agreement. Diaw’s stated how he fits the system in San Antonio, and he also has the chance to play with his childhood friend Tony Parker. However, Nicolas Batum, who also has a history with Diaw from the French National team, also plays with Portland.
