In speaking with ESPN Deportes in Spain recently, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker was well aware of the situation where his team is one of several teams in the running to sign Los Angeles Lakers free agent Pau Gasol.
According to Parker, he’s had conversations with Gasol about joining the Spurs, and even if Gasol didn’t choose San Antonio, it wouldn’t be an issue amongst their friendship.
“I’ve talked to Pau (Gasol) and I said I would love to play with him someday. Luckily, you have many options to play. Lakers are a great choice, but everyone wants to play with Pau, because it is one of the best players in the world, “he replied when asked about a possible interest in hiring the Catalan Spurs player.
“If you choose not to play with us (Spurs), will continue to be my friend and dinner with a glass of good wine,” he added.
In the interview, Parker also continued to indicate that he will miss the 2014 FIBA World Cup to rest, but his next goal for the French National team is to play in the 2016 Olympic games.
Early Thursday morning, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports indicated that the Spurs have moved close to the Chicago Bulls in the running for Gasol.
Spurs persistence on Pau Gasol keeping them a serious contender, inching closer to the Bulls, league sources tell Yahoo.
