Manu Ginobili says Dallas series will be tough

The West’s number one seeded San Antonio Spurs will open their postseason tomorrow against the eighth seeded Dallas Mavericks and while many are seeing this series end quickly with a sweep from the Spurs, guard Manu Ginobili isn’t taking Dallas lightly.

Dallas still boasts players such as Dirk Nowtizki, Monta Ellis, Vince Carter and Shawn Marion with role players such as former Spur DeJuan Blair, Jose Claderon, and Brendan Wright.

This Mavs team will not go down without a fight and Ginobili is well aware of this. In a recent article for Argentina site La Canchallena, Manu spoke about the team’s opening round opponent says it will be a very tough series.

It’s time for Dallas. This team has a lot of scorers, and are a great 3 point shooting team, and they have a bit of everything. It’s going to be very, very tough. And if we move on, it will be Houston or Portland, against whom we have problems. It’s complicated even if we are the first seed. We have to work, play hard and play well. Dallas versus San Antonio is a Texas classic, and the fact we’ve played many times in the playoffs before, it makes it even more compelling, especially for fans. Dallas eliminated us in 2006 and then we eliminated them, but we’re new teams and whatever happened in the past it doesn’t really mean anything.

There’s no doubt the Mavs look out-matched in this series versus the Spurs. But this is the postseason and anything can happen. Both teams suffered upsets in the first round and came up short when a shot at a title is in hand.

Any team can catch fire at a moments time and since the Spurs have seen it all in the playoffs, Manu knows not to take any team for granted. It’s not like the Spurs have been upset before by an eighth seed before.
