Leonard out 3-4 weeks with broken hand

San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard will miss three-to-four weeks with a fractured fourth metacarpal in his right hand, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Leonard will wear a split on the finger and no surgery is required.

Leonard's finger is stable, as 48 Minutes of Hell's Matthew Tynan noted postgame, and it will heal with "protective immobilization." That is a positive sign, if anything.

In the meantime, San Antonio waived forward Malcolm Thomas to free up a roster for 6-foot-5 guard Othyus Jeffers. Jeffers will likely sign a 10-day contract, and perhaps another 10-day deal, until Danny Green returns. Green broke the second metacarpal on his left hand (non-shooting). His original timetable was four weeks, though Green said he is ahead of schedule.

But, don't panic too much. San Antonio is 5.4 points per 100 possessions better with Leonard off the floor this season, per NBA.com. After a three-game stretch in which the Spurs play Atlanta, Miami and Houston in five days, the Spurs will have a relatively easy schedule.

Leonard's earliest likely return will be Feb. 18 against the Los Angeles Clippers.
