After finally being cleared with insurance to play for the French National team on Thursday, San Antonio Spurs forward Boris Diaw made his debut with France Friday in a 75-68 exhibition victory over the Philippines.
In his return to the court, Diaw grabbed 10 rebounds, scored one point (on 0-of-4 shooting), and tallied four assists in close to 26 minutes of play. Diaw started in the game, while Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum led France with a team-high 16 points.
Diaw and France will face the Ukraine on Saturday in France in another exhibition match. Diaw’s Spurs teammate Tiago Splitter and Brazil will square off against the United States’ National team in Chicago on Saturday, in a friendly matchup.
In 26 minutes with the Australian National team Friday, Spurs restricted free agent Aron Baynes scored 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, blocked one shot, and collected one assist in 26 minutes of play, in a 74-65 victory over Ukraine.
Sunday, Diaw and Baynes will face each other in an exhibition matchup between France and Australia, as the game will take place in Diaw’s home country.
