FIBA Exhibition: Diaw & Baynes score 17 points each; France defeats Australia

A week ago, San Antonio Spurs free agent center Aron Baynes and the Australian National team took down Spurs forward Boris Diaw and France 76-74. Sunday in Strasbourg, France, Diaw and Les Bleus used a 23-10 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to get their revenge on Australia with a 73-50 victory in exhibition play.

Both Diaw and Baynes led their countries in scoring with 17 points apiece, as here were their stat lines from the match.

Diaw: 17 points (3-of-4 from three), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block in 26 minutes

Baynes: 17 points, 11 rebounds, 1 steal, 3 blocks in 25 minutes

Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds for France, while Utah Jazz rookie Dante Exum only played seven minutes off the bench for two points and three rebounds.

According to the FIBA exhibition match schedule, this was the last friendly game both squads will play before the actual 2014 World Cup begins on Saturday, August 30. Diaw and France will open the World Cup against Spurs center Tiago Splitter and Brazil on Saturday. Baynes and Australia will face Slovenia in their opening cup matchup.
