It’s onto the Round of 16 for San Antonio Spurs forward Boris Diaw and the French National team, as Les Bleus defeated Iran 81-76 Thursday in their final game of group play. After starting the first quarter down by 10 points, France was able to take control of the game in the second and third quarter, as they held on for the victory.
In his 27 minutes of play, Diaw scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds, collected three assists, and blocked one shot for Les Bleus. Thomas Heurtel led France in scoring with 15 points, Evan Fournier added 13 points, and Joffrey Lauvergne scored 12 points.
In five games of Group Phase play, Diaw finished averaging 7.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 21.4 minutes per game. France finished 3-2 in Group A, third in their respective group. Diaw and France will face Croatia on Saturday, a team that also finished with a 3-2 record in Group play.
Diaw’s Spurs teammate Tiago Splitter and Brazil also moved on to the Round of 16, as they’ll face Argentina Sunday. Though Aron Baynes didn’t play in Australia’s loss to Angola, Australia also advanced to the Round of 16 where they’ll face Turkey on Sunday.
