San Antonio Spurs forward Boris Diaw struggled offensively (scoring 1 point) but grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out four assists as Team France escaped with a 75-68 win over Gilas Pilipinas in exhibition play at the 2014 Antibes international tournament in France.
France was led by Blazers’ Nicolas Batum’s 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Gilas scared the talented French squad as they led for most of the third quarter and led as much as 15 points heading into the final quarter. But a 20-8 run by France put away Gilas and any thoughts of an upset.
Diaw’s performance shouldn’t be a concern. Chalk it up to an off night or the fact France may have overlooked Gilas.
However, Diaw will need to be a presence at the World Cup if France is to entertain any thoughts of getting a medal.
