Report: Mike Bibby, Mickael Pietrus working out for Spurs

According to Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com, the San Antonio Spurs are holding a mini-camp this week with some training camp invites and notable veterans Mike Bibby and Mickael Pietrus are also among the players working out for San Antonio.

Bibby, now 35 years old, last played in the NBA two years ago during the 2011-2012 lockout season. In 39 games with the New York Knicks, the veteran point guard averaged 2.6 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game.

Pietrus, who is 31 years of age, played in 19 games with the Toronto Raptors last season where he averaged 5.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. He is also familiar with fellow Frenchmen on the Spurs Tony Parker, Nando De Colo, and Boris Diaw from their days of playing together on the French National team.

With one roster space remaining and a need for a backup small forward, the interest in Pietrus (and Josh Childress) seems ideal. However, like Royal Ivey and Sebastian Telfair who are guards along with Bibby, another guard would only add to the already overcrowded bench in the Spurs' backcourt.

Again, these are just players participating in mini-camps and there still may be names reported from now until the first day of training camp on October 1, but so far the players listed above could possibly point to the position the team is targeting with its vacant roster spot.
