San Antonio Spurs big man Aron Baynes is obviously trying hard to make the most of the opportunities he has been given thus far this year, whether it's mop-up duty in blowouts, or extended minutes when he's assigned to the Austin Toros.
In Tuesday's game versus the Toronto Raptors, he was given the nod to play extended minutes with the 2nd team thanks to Tiago Splitter being injured and unable to play. In 21 minutes of action, the Aussie big man cashed in on his opportunity by scoring 14 points and 6 rebounds.
After his impressive performance in Toronto, Baynes reacted by saying, "I'm always trying to stay ready, not thinking about who is in or out. You never know how the game is going to develop."
Unfortunately, Aron was unable follow up on his solid performance in Canada the next day against the Milwaukee Bucks because of a sprained ankle that he suffered in Toronto.
Coach Pop also praised Aron on his hard work and dedication.
"He tries to do his best. He's big and strong and has good international experience playing on the Australian Olympic team. He's not a newcomer to competition by any means. He just needs an opportunity."
I fully expect that Aron will continue to work hard, and more opportunities will almost certainly come his way.
