During the NBA Finals, Rey Moralde of The No Look Pass will be contributing to Project Spurs during the San Antonio Spurs' chase for title number five.
Dwight Howard went on vacation early as he and the Los Angeles Lakers got eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs in a clean sweep and it seems the pain of losing to San Antonio is still on his mind.
He was recently interviewed by T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles Times for a Sunday column. Howard talked about the Lakers, getting movie opportunities, and working on his free throws.
Howard also talked about being eliminated in the postseason, which included a certain name drop.
"I couldn't watch the playoffs I was so ticked. Everywhere I went I saw a Tim Duncan jersey, and you know how much I hated that."
Of course, the Spurs are now in the NBA Finals. And Howard should be ticked. Tim Duncan has four championship rings, four more than he does. And Duncan also has two regular season MVP and three Finals MVP awards. Howard has none of those, either.
It's tough to feel sorry for Dwight, though. His lack of commitment towards his teams (Orlando and now, the Lakers) has rubbed people the wrong way. His goofiness and attitude almost seem fake because of the way he's whined in the last two seasons. And that same goofiness makes it seem like he's not serious about getting better in basketball.
But there's no doubt about what a difference he can make on the court. While his offensive game may never be polished, he's still one of the better defenders in the game today. His balky back has taken away some of his explosiveness; he may never even get it back. But he's a difference-maker on the basketball court and teams have to game plan around him.
Now if Howard only had Duncan's cerebral approach towards the game, then he might win some MVP awards and championships. Until then, the only thing he might win in the near future is a Razzie for being in a horrible Hollywood movie should he choose to be in one.
And by the way, I bet many Spurs fans are loving this right now.
