‘Sir Charles’ Slams the Spurs… Again

Sir Charles Barkley has always had a love/hate relationship with the fans of the San Antonio Spurs. If he is not undervaluing the team, then he is talking poorly about the women in San Antonio.

So his comments during ESPN’s Monday Night Football game between the St Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks, the “Round Mound of Rebound” gave a halftime interview shouldn’t come as a big surprise. When the topic of the  upcoming 2013-2014 NBA season came up, he had this to say about the silver and black.

Via Biz Journals:

“Barkley made it clear during his halftime interview that, in his not-so-humble opinion, the Lakers won’t make the playoffs and the Spurs are, at best, a middle-of-the-pack team in their own conference”.

It appears that Sir Charles believes the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets are ahead of the Spurs in the Western Conference pecking order. Barkley went on to state that he expects the Clippers to be playing in the NBA Finals.

With a healthy Russell Westbrook, a case for the Thunder being placed ahead of the Spurs can be made, the Clippers and Rockets are at best equal footing in the Western Conference. Anything beyond that is laughable.

The Spurs being looked over by members of the media is nothing new.  These are the same folks that have been calling the team plain boring at the beginning and during the season for the past six years or so.

Along with the bad taste of last June still lingering in their collective mouths, the Spurs will respond in the usual way by playing fundamental team basketball and grind out the wins.  Then at the end of the regular season, they will end up making serious noise in the playoffs and the Finals.

So Spurs’ fans, how do you think of Sir Charles evaluation of your San Antonio Spurs?
