Popovich on Kawhi’s struggles: ‘It’s not a big deal’

AT&T CENTER – There is a time in a players career where things do not come out as planned.  They struggle, but still find ways to compete and put a stamp on a game.  For San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard, he is struggling.  There is no reason to sugar coat it, I will just come right out and say it.

Am I wrong?

Leonard shot just 2-of-7 from the floor against the Atlanta Hawks back on December 2nd.  He played just 22 minutes while scoring four points and grabbing five rebounds.  Over his last two games, Leonard is 5-of-15 from the floor.

Players go through these rough times, we as fans sometimes come down to hard on players that we feel should produce at high numbers.  It really does not matter what we think but how your coach feels. Gregg Popovich knows that he is struggling.

"From time to time, a player is going to have a couple of games where he looks a little bit out of kilter," said Popovich after the Spurs win. "It happens to Manu (Ginobili). It happens to Tim (Duncan). It happens to guys on other teams. It's not a big deal."

He could not of said it any better.  Before Leonard started with his struggles, teammate Tim Duncan was not in form at the start of the season.  He too was struggling.  What every good player does is not get down on themselves, they help their teams in other areas and that is what these three have done.

Leonard is explosive in the open floor, he can finish with the best in the league.  What he does lack and will continue to improve on is his outside shot.  His length is a big advantage for him against defenders.  It does not take him much to get to the rim, long strides.  He is young, he is growing as a player and I feel that having struggles does one thing to all of these players whom think they are invincible, keeps them in check.

He [Leonard] is averaging 11.2 points per game and 6.3 rebounds.  He and the San Antonio Spurs take on the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight.  We will see how he effects that game tonight and if he can get back to an offensive threat that he can be.

Spurs fans, are you worried about the struggles of Kawhi Leonard?
