Popovich: Military Vets Not Properly Honored

When asked to describe San Antonio Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich the most common words would be gruff, intimidating and non-cooperative. Anyone who has seen his one line in between quarter interviews would compare him to a bully or someone with a disdain for the media.

Popovich tends to believe that less is more when it comes to dealing with the media.  So when he does speak/interact with the media, it is with a purpose and given the right topic he can really chew a person ear off.

In a recent USA Today article Coach Pop shared his thoughts on Veteran’s Day and the brave men and women who valiantly serve our country.

"In a lot of ways, it's a joyous day if we all remember to honor people, But in some ways, it's a sad day because (soldiers and veterans) don't really get honored the way they should be. Some of it is just pablum.”

He believes actions speak louder than words. Being a former Air Force graduate, he has seen the struggles made by both the soldiers and their families.  He has personally seen how they rely on government programs and understands how much the recent government sequester has affected these families.

To him, Veteran’s Day is a day to thank the people who have fought and are currently fighting for our freedoms; but a day to realize that a lot more still needs to be done for them.

So while a nice meal at your local restaurant will be a good idea, I am sure a heart felt thank you would be appreciated even more.
