It’s the duty of any loyal San Antonio Spurs fan to always stay informed about what the team’s foreign draft picks are doing overseas.
For those not keeping tabs on Adam Hanga, you’ll be happy to know that he’s doing quite well over in Europe.
Hanga’s Hungarian team just beat Cyprus 77-64 in group play of the EuroBasket qualifiers. Hanga had 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. What was most impressive about his performance though was his shooting percentage. Hanga shot 11 of 14 from the floor. That’s nearly 79%!
Looking through the play-by-play, it seems that most of Hanga’s made baskets were layups. That explains the high shooting percentage, but I’m not trying to discredit the game that he had. For a guard to get that many layups means he’s showing off solid quickness and penetration skills.
Hanga is only 23 and hasn’t really gotten to play much against real NBA-caliber competition. We’re still waiting on him or the Spurs’ coaching staff to decide when he’s ready to make the jump. For now though, it’s great to see him putting up big stats over in Europe. His development is coming along quite nicely, and hopefully he’ll mature into the player the Spurs hoped he would become when they drafted him last year.
