Many were saddened when the news came out San Antonio Spurs great Mike Mitchell passed away last month.
Though he had a tremendous impact on the court for the Spurs and throughout his basketball career, his fellow Auburn alum and former NBA player Charles Barkley recalled meeting Mitchell when he entered the NBA. And although Barkley did not know Mitchell that well, Mitchell did make it a point to welcome Barkley into the NBA:
“One of the first things he did for me was welcome me to the NBA and spent a little time with me,” Barkley said.
Mitchell may have been known for his high-arching shot, and his 19.8 points and 5.6 rebounds while in San Antonio, but it’s these type of memories which made him an exemplary member of the Spurs and a shining example for future Spurs players to look up to.
