Manu Slapped A Bat. PETA Responds. Print E-mail

Like we didn't see this coming.

We all heard about and saw video of Manu smacking a bat during the Spurs-Kings game this past Saturday night.  Well PETA has responded.

Here's our take on it: To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death, it takes either a small man or a totally unthinking one—with no respect or consideration for lives humbler than his own. This is a time when athletes in particular need to be on their best behavior around any animal and show that they have brains and a heart, not just reactionary brawn.

Bats always try to avoid contact with humans, and there are plenty of easy ways to keep bats out of a basketball arena(or your home). We hope that the next time someone's life is on the line, Manu Ginobili will take just a few seconds to think before he acts.

For those of you who have not seen the video take a look for yourself.

This must be the most "drama" coming from the San Antonio Spurs ever in recent years!  Please leave us your thoughts on this bat-slap heard around the world and if you agree with PETA's response.

Dear PETA

Nobody cares about you, quit whining. I will give PETA credit though, they are fantastic at jumping on random events for the easy publicity. I'm sure it would've been easy to keep the bat out of the arena, but it got in. Manu swats bats like he'd swat shots. Get some #20, wear it bat.

PETA says, "The bat, of course, did what anybody would do in such a terrifying, unfamiliar situation", well Manu did what ever a human might do in this situation, fight or flight. Unfortunately, the bat lost.

PETA is going batshit crazy, excuse the pun, on this. Then calling Manu a small or unthinking man. Really?

HA!!! Love it. Manu is a bad ass.
This is ridiculous.

Wow. You couldn't parody this. If you even tried to write this into a movie, people would say it felt "unrealistic".

I knew it was only a matter of time that this hypocritical organzation would take flight and belittle Manu. I won't go into my rant on why I hate peta (yes hate is a strong word I use it wisely with this issue) I had posted a comment on the Petard Files and what do you know...it was not approved. ASPCA ftw! Screw you Peta.

PETA vs Manu
written by sivanjohn, November 03, 2009
In my humble opinion, PETA has the right to voice their concern about the whole incident. I'm saying this because I am an animal lover and hate to see animal suffering. But from what I've seen Manu was just trying to remove the bat from the situation. I don't believe that he wanted to kill to poor thing.

To summarize this, it was just accident! Get it.

The best thing for everyone is that we all learn from this situation. I'm sure the people responsible will ensure that such incident will not be repeated in the future.

And please, I've been hearing some reports that Manu is being treated the same way as Michael Vick. For the love of God, these are are two a whole lotta of difference. It wasn't like Manu made some money from this situation.

As a youth leadership organization,Talking Talons would like to offer education to any person regarding the extreme value of bats, as well as the importance of positive role-modeling. That bat was probably coming down to feed on an insect, doing any person in that arena a favor. Those with knowledge regarding wildlife and bats know that bats are an important part of our ecosystem. PETA has done a great job in countering the countless negatively skewed articles regarding the bat and rabies.

I'd like to report my neighbor to your organization to please file against her. Just yesterday she maliciously ran her car into a poor, frightened deer. I guess the authorities say it is the 'rut' now and the deer was just trying to stay away from the biggest, baddest rapist in the woods you can imagine. He had 10 spears coming from his head and when she wasn't in the mood, he was prodded/beating her. She was so distraught that she crossed a highway where she dodged in front of my neighbor's car. Can you PLEASE file papers a complaint against my neighbor. Its not like she's even ashamed - telling everyon she hit a deer with her car. Like it happens 1000's of times a day. Just like Manu who was not even ashamed of his role it removing the bat from the gym. Wait, did the bat die too? Didn't he throw it to the floor and then crush it's little head? No? So where's the abuse? I thought you were all about returning animals to their natural habitat? Can you please focus on real cases like my neighbor? Manu seems to just be cleaning up someone else's mess. I mean, someone probably caught the bat and brought it in the areana for Halloween. Some joke. Maybe you could focus your efforts on finding that person instead of attacking the person taking care of business. In fact, if you really wanted to get on something, how about all the leather that is worn by the players on their shoes!?!!? Isn't that something we could really work with?

A BAT? Seriously PETA - GET A LIFE, the bat still has one. My neighbor is the real killer here.

This is rediculus. If you really think you need to sue the NBA because he killed a bat, you need to find some other way to get publicity. im all for PETA by the way (People eating tasty animals!!)
