San Antonio's roster recently had a makeover. Next year it could receive another one. In just a few years, you won't see much of today's roster still there. We don't have a lot of tradeable assets either. Hang on tight because I guarantee somebody will disagree with our completely hypothetical future outlook. Let's see what we have now.

If you look at that list carefully, thinking about their ages, what they give us, and what they have left to give, you should begin to get a picture of what's about to happen.
2009
As we get into the season, it will become apparent, in a painful way, that our best move is to shop Mahinmi. As it plays out, we send Mahinmi, Finley, and Bonner to Houston for Battier and a future pick.
2010
The year everyone has been waiting for. Teams around the league have spent years preparing for the new decade, remaking rosters, clearing cap space. San Antonio decided to start the party a year early though. When we look back in years to come, 2009 might have done more to reshape the league than 2010 will.
 Coming off the books will be Ginobili, Mason, Bonner, Finley, Ratliff, and Williams. Despite all the talk and rumors about trading Manu, he probably isn't going anywhere. Ratliff and Williams should be out the door.
Ginobili will be back on contract, say 3 years, for less money than he makes now. Meanwhile, as Miami realizes Wade doesn't like their roster, and Pop decides he loves Battier's defense, we get Wade in a sign and trade for Jefferson. We also bring Tiago Splitter over this year, significantly improving our post.
With what is quite possibly the best backcourt in the history of the NBA, and a solid front court, San Antonio stands pat.

2011
 This year we'll thank McDyess as he retires, freeing up a few dollars for us. We'll be resigning Parker because he's the face of the Spurs. Pop will still have a man-crush on Battier, bringing him back, as well as his steadily improving backup, Hairston. Being a reliable bench player, Haislip will get a very small raise for a couple more years. Getting a better grasp on things, Pop decides to bring McClinton up from the Toros a couple times, locking him up before the playoffs. Williams opted to sign somewhere else, hoping to get more minutes.

2012
 Splitter has been doing very well, and Duncan slowly morphes into the '99 Robinson, a still very good, and very efficient post player, with a young upstart beside him. His last few years will be fun ones. Hill is also proving to be an excellent combo guard, pleasing Spurs fans as he gets a well earned raise. Another young French guard will be joining us too, as Nando De Colo comes over to apprentice under Parker. The center we drafted in 2010 has been looking good in D-League play as well, so he'll be Duncan's personal project for the next year.

2013
 4 years later, and Blair's knees still aren't giving him any trouble, we just wish we could say the same about Duncan's. Nobody has ever seen a guy Blair's size average that many rebounds, so San Antonio wastes no time getting him a new contract. Injuries are starting to pile up for Manu, and after wrestling with his decision, decides to stick around a couple more years, to retire with Duncan in 2015. Haislip hasn't been producing off the bench anymore, so he is easily let go. San Antonio is finally making an effort to bring Viktor Sanikidze over too, he played quite well for Olympiakos last year.
The Spurs, being the oldest team in the league, are routinely brushed aside, despite 3 straight Finals wins. We barely got past Portland last year, thanks to a McClinton shooting display rivaled only by Kerr against the Mavericks. Thankfully, some of our players in Europe have looked promising. Pop and Buford managed to package several second round picks together to move into the middle of the first round, drafting a very raw, but very athletic and promising small forward. De Colo is looking like our future point guard too. There is potential for the future, but a big trade still looks likely.

2014
 Next year's roster was facing a lot of changes, Buford just decided to speed up the process. New Jersey got themselves into some cap trouble. We were able to give them some flexibility by swapping Wade and Battier for the 3 year contract of perennial All Star Courtney Lee, once again giving us a more youthful and studly shooting guard. He'll be needed, as it sounds like Duncan and Ginobili will be retiring next year, and Buford is pleading with Popovich not to join them.
Rumors are also circulating that DeJuan Blair could be Malik Rose'd, which would leave us very thin in the frontcourt. But if the reports are true that we might be able to trade Blair and Hairston for Al Jefferson, one last ring for Duncan might not be as hard to attain as we thought, especially with De Colo's breakout season last year. Some old timers say he looked a little like Pistol Pete at LSU.
